Welip Guadeloupe: Pioneers of Sustainable and Regenerative Tourism for an Eco-Responsible Future

At Welip, we understand that tomorrow's tourism is built on the foundations of sustainability. With 78% of travelers wanting to stay in sustainable accommodation, we're committed to being at the forefront of this essential transformation.

Introduction

In our quest to offer exceptional vacation experiences in Guadeloupe, we at Welip are acutely aware of our responsibility to the environment and to society. It is in this spirit that we align our efforts with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations. These 17 ambitious goals aim to transform our world into a fairer, more prosperous and environmentally friendly place by 2030.‍

The New Trend in the Global Vacation Rental Market: Sustainability

In the global vacation rental market, adopting sustainable practices is no longer an option, but a necessity dictated by consumer expectations. According to a recent study by Booking.com, 78% of travelers want to stay in sustainable accommodation by 2023, highlighting a growing demand for environmentally-friendly travel options. This trend is all the more significant given that accommodation accounts for around 20% of greenhouse gas emissions, mainly due to heating and air conditioning. The partnership between Sustonica and Booking.com, aimed at promoting sustainable accommodation, reflects this market evolution. Indeed, 51% of travelers feel that the current offer of eco-responsible accommodation is insufficient, while 65% would feel more comfortable in certified sustainable accommodation. These figures clearly demonstrate that the economic and commercial issues linked to sustainability in tourism have become key elements in meeting the expectations of modern travelers.

The future of tourism lies in the balance between comfort and respect for the environment. Our collaboration with local initiatives such as Sustonica and Booking.com underlines our determination to offer vacation experiences that combine luxury and environmental responsibility.

The Global Impact of Sustainable Tourism: The Example of "A World for Travel" 2023

The 2023 "A World for Travel" event, held in Seville last October, perfectly illustrates the growing importance of sustainable tourism on the world stage. This year's event focused on five categories of major change: social, environmental, climatic, economic and technical, underlining the importance of sharing current developments and projecting the future of tourism in these areas. Topics such as marine and regenerative tourism, human capital issues and technological challenges were at the heart of the discussions.

The event's unique collaboration with the Tourism Innovation Summit (TIS) and the city of Seville, designated Europe's Smart City 2023, highlighted efforts to minimize the environmental impact of holding two major events simultaneously. The AWFT Sustainability Awards, presented at the event, celebrated individuals, companies and organizations that have demonstrated futuristic vision and responsible action in the areas of climate action, environmental impact, technological prowess, economic success and societal sustainability.

These global initiatives and recognitions reflect the values and objectives that we at Welip strive to embody in our commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism in Guadeloupe.

Faced with a growing demand for eco-responsible accommodation, Welip is positioning itself not only as a supplier of dream vacations, but also as a key player in the promotion of sustainable and conscious tourism in Guadeloupe.

Towards More Responsible Tourism: The Rise of Regenerative Tourism

GEO.fr's article "Le tourisme régénératif, quand le touriste répaire son lieu de vacances", written by Sacha Carion, explores a new form of tourism that aims to have a positive impact on vacation destinations.

Faced with the increase in mass tourism and its harmful effects on the environment, regenerative tourism is emerging as an alternative. This form of tourism aims to improve the condition of destinations, in terms of biodiversity, the local economy and the well-being of local people.

Regenerative tourism is based on principles such as biomimicry and regenerative leadership. It encourages travelers to actively contribute to the revitalization and regeneration of their vacation destination's environment and ecosystem. This approach goes beyond sustainable tourism, which focuses primarily on damage reduction, by seeking to make a positive, tangible contribution.

This type of tourism calls for a fundamental shift in the way we see the world, emphasizing collaboration, local community and well-being. It represents a major philosophical shift away from traditional forms of tourism.

Although regenerative tourism is not yet widespread, it is part of tourism development programs in countries such as New Zealand. In France, the Agence Régionale du Tourisme du Grand Est has identified regenerative tourism as a key trend to watch.

At Welip, we are inspired by the concept of regenerative tourism and strive to integrate it into our approach. We believe that this perspective offers a promising path for the future of tourism, by encouraging responsibility and positive engagement on the part of travelers towards the destinations they visit. Our ambition is to make a modest contribution to this evolution, by promoting stays that respect and value the places and communities we are privileged to serve.

Inspired by "Aim for the top : To succeed, become a strategist": Turning Sustainability into Strategy

Inspired by the teachings of Christine Kerdellant and General Vincent Desportes in their book "Visez le sommet : Pour Réussir, Devenez Stratège", we at Welip have learned to perceive sustainability not as a constraint, but as a strategic opportunity. This perspective has enabled us to rethink our practices in the tourism sector, adopting more environmentally-friendly methods while improving the customer experience.

Turning sustainability challenges into opportunities has paved the way for creative innovation at Welip. Using eco-friendly materials, optimizing energy consumption and offering tourist experiences that enhance our natural and cultural heritage are all examples of our commitment. This strategic approach, inspired by the ideas of Mme Kerdellant and the General, has helped us to better meet travelers' expectations and consolidate our important role in the Guadeloupe vacation rental sector.

By making sustainability a strategy rather than a constraint, Welip is committed to offering memorable stays that respect our environment and benefit our community.

Inspired by 'Aim for the top: Pour Réussir, devenez stratège' by Christine Kerdellant and General Vincent Desportes, we have transformed sustainability into a key strategy at Welip. This vision has enabled us to rethink our practices, adopting environmentally-friendly methods and enhancing our customers' experience, proving that sustainability can be a driver of innovation and customer satisfaction.
